Hi, I'm trying to make a case for some adapters/mouse I have. I've got the parts modeled and in an assembly as shown in this picture:Capture.PNG All I want to do now is "subtract" them straight up (linearly) from the block they're sitting in.

I just upgraded from SW2015 to SW2017 and I am finding all of a sudden that I cannot reorder my assembly tree by dragging features and components. In all my previous models, I used the following tree order: Reference Planes and Axes

Has anyone ever had SolidWorks start acting up and then crash, and then BAM, your assembly file on the disk is gone? I was working on an assembly that was last saved in SWX 2016; now I'm on SWX 2018.

For example 6 x parts the same have the instance id's 1,2,4,6,8,10 and not 1,2,3,4,5,6? I know the BOM still has the correct instance count but its nice to glance in your design tree when actually working on the model to see a count of parts. Not essential but it is annoying!!

OK, I did a search and did not find the answer - I saw one entry related, but did not see any answers to it. I have an assembly that I am trying to use smart fasteners on. One side, the fasteners go in with the correct alignment.

Solidworks 2016 SP5 on Win10 64 Bit Has anyone experienced a instance of a derived component pattern changing itself to a different config other than the seed component on its own?

I'm creating a configurable standard pressure vessel assembly and I need some suggestions for a sub-assembly I would like to promote in the main assembly. I'll try my best to describe what I would like to see as best as I can. The pressure vessel can have a number of nozzle connections depending on the specific need and/or function.

Hello all. Still my first week of using Solid Works and this forum. Many years using CAD starting in 1990. Just came from Solid Edge.

COMPLETE newbie OK. I looked through forums and blogs for a week before deciding to post my "issue" I am trying to learn how to mate this pad onto the cylinder in the orientation that I want.

I have always used the Lock Rotation option in my Concentric Mates, because, coming from a Pro/E background, I am conditioned to need everything fully constrained. I recently did a consolidation exercise, in which I took the Options settings from another user's system and applied them to mine, using the Copy Settings wizard - I decided my settings were too 'idiosyncratic', so I wanted to have us all working with something that looked similar.

Driving component dimensions through assembly equations I am creating an assembly of a pressure vessel to be used through a spreadsheet input in the design table rather than generating configurations, there are too many options required to make configurations feasible. One problem I am coming across is when I attempt to modify dimensions in components with multiple configurations.

How do I remove appearances defined in an assembly without affecting the sub assembly or part file appearances? When looking at the assembly I see all appearances that were defined in part files or at the assembly level.

Hi. I want to fix a gear in space but let it to rotate. In Inventor I can make assembly level axis in the center of a gear and fix axis in space. And then mate gear to it.

I understand solidworks have tools to perform tolerance study. But can it extend to study the impact to moving parts? i.e. if I have a few moving parts making up an arm each has some gaps and fabrication tolerance, is there a tool that can simulate or determine if the resultant assembly would have problem with arm's function?

Out of the box, the only way I know how to apply a certain property to an instance of a component, is by using the Component Reference Field. It is great, because it could be shown in BOM, could be used in advanced selection and other processes.

Assembly Modeling 2010 Training files Does anyone know where I can get the assembly modeling Training exercise files for Solidworks 2010. I went thru the class sometime ago and I want to refresh my knowledge but I'm missing the training/exercise files (Solid Model) that are needed to for the course.

When opening a Step file, I have Solidworks set so that multiple bodies are imported as parts. Can SW be set to make any parts/sub-assemblies generated by the step file virtual by default? The long-winded way I have to do this currently is open the Step file as normal, save the resulting imported files, highlight all in the tree and select "Make Virtual", save the assembly again, then delete the redundant part/sub-assembly files.

pattern driven component pattern mirrored parts Hi Guys, I often mirror sheet metal parts, and also often use 'pattern driven component pattern' using components like nuts and bolts. Using pattern driven component pattern on the parent part is no problem, but it won't let me use the same feature inside the mirrored part, even if I select 'use hole wizard data'.
